Dear David Feherty, are you trying to lose your job? If so, consider probably a mission accomplished, and if not, I suspect you’ve already received a deserving reprimand from the powers-that-be at CBS. Want to lose respect you’ve earned from the golfing world? You may have achieved that as well.
In case you haven’t heard, Feherty wrote this gem of an op-ed piece (as one of 5 writers musings on Dubya’s return to Texas) in D Magazine. Here’s the most priceless quote of them all:
From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this, though: despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.
WOW. In one line, Feherty has suggested the assasination of two major American political figures, AND tainted the image of brave American soldiers as if they were some sort of Black-Ops government hit men.
What was he thinking? Well, he obviously wasn’t. Way to be controversial. It’s one thing to discuss your political opinions behind closed doors, but it’s a complete different story to publicly slander the American government (and in print, mind you)! I have a feeling that these comments are going to haunt him for a long time.
Feherty has always been a little off his rocker, but I find found him entertaining. (I mean, calling Tiger a loser last week took some guts). And, I’ve always liked that he was quirky, unconventional – what have you. While I fully support “freedom of speech,” he took it too far this time.
Here’s a piece of advice, Feherty: stick to your day job (that is, if you still have one) as a GOLF COMMENTATOR, and let the political pundits do theirs.
