If you were wondering why Masters’ runner-up Kenny Perry wasn’t teeing it up at this week’s Quail Hollow Championship. Here’s the answer: the Kentucky Derby, another fine American tradition, is on Saturday. Perry, a native of Franklin, Kentucky, has the honor of serving as the Derby’s grand marshal, along with his father, Ken Perry. Today, they participated in the pre-festival event, the Pegasus Parade.
The always gracious and likable Perry smiled and greeted his many fans. How can you not love this guy?! I sure do.
Tip of the hat, or should I say helmet, sir.
So, if you’re not watching golf (or another sporting event) tomorrow, collect your Maker’s Mark, ascots and seersucker to celebrate the years of grooming, blood, sweat, tears and energy exerted by trainers, breeders, jockeys and ponies for the damned finest horse race in the country. And, ladies, don’t forget to don your most ostentious hat!
